Things take time in Government, but on the 15th July, the Government launched a major review into improving the health outcomes in babies and young children. This will look on factors that affect the health of babies and early years children, including social and emotional factors.
Advisers have pointed out that the first 1000 days of childhood are critical for development, and have a significant impact on physical health, mental health and opportunity throughout life. Studies have shown that children living in households of the poorest socio-economic group have significantly worse health outcomes, caused by stress and smoking in pregnancy as well as communications problems.
The aim is to provide the best start for all children, giving them access to better care, as well as more support for parents.
We’ll keep you up to date with developments in the coming months.
